Board of Directors
Bine Grigel- President
I was born in Berlin, Germany though I grew up in northern Germany. For 38 years I have worked in the social sector and have also studied psychotherapy. I’m a mother of a 21 year old daughter. My hobbies include, among others, outings with my dogs, reading, social media, motorcycling, and swimming.
My love for animals has existed for as long as I can remember. I grew up with animals and have raised many. My passion for elephants has accompanied me since I was a kid and I already knew and felt that it is not right to keep elephants in zoos that use bull hooks or where elephants are chained with inadequate space to roam, or circuses . Through constant education I have expanded my knowledge about elephants. I often visited the zoo and was very familiar with an elephant bull who lived there for 25 years. When he died in June 2012 in a tragic way, it became clear to me that I must do something for elephants in captivity." I founded Elephant Warrior on Facebook and it has grown each and every day. Today there are more than 17.000 members. Now I’m also President of Elephant Freedom Sanctuary, a non-profit organization, which was founded by me and two other women, to implement our vision of building an elephant sanctuary in Florida. In this role I am responsible for the typical duties of the President.
Cynthia Rayment- Vice President
Originally from Miami, Florida I grew up to dance semi-professionally and have been a Health & Fitness professional for 40 years. Now married for 8 years my hobbies include Motorcycling, Fitness, and raising my dogs, to name a few...
My love for animals has been a passion all my life and more so for Elephants with increasing intensity going on 5 years now. Through continuous personal education I became compelled to fill my role in saving this wondrous species. My corporate experience has allowed me to acquire many skills and become the Vice President of the newest nonprofit Elephant Freedom Sanctuary. In this role I am responsible for the typical duties of the Vice President. Due to the small nature of this budding organization I find public relations included in my duties, as well as assisting with ideas & visions. All of this comes together to create a strong structure for an Elephant Sanctuary here in central Florida.
Shonda Green - key-volunteer in a bookkeeping role
I grew up as an Army Brat, which meant I’ve lived in multiple states and multiple countries during my childhood. This afforded me the great opportunity to learn from so many different cultures and to realize that we are all equal in this world and even with cultural differences we are still very much human no matter where we live. I was raised with a strong belief that animals are loving creatures with souls just the same as humans. We all inhabit this Earth together and a mutual respect for one another must be achieved in order for this planet to be sustainable. As an adult I found a passion for Accounting in school and went on to achieve my Bachelor’s Degree in the subject, tutoring other students along the way. I worked with many aspects of accounting but most notably with Payroll and Grant Compliance for local, state, and federal granting authorities. I was fortunate enough to realize that I had a second passion and that is for nonprofits. I truly believe we must all be the change we seek in the world. I completed my Master’s Degree in Nonprofit Management and have been coaching start-up nonprofits ever since. I’m drawn to the plight of the elephants and this new organization Elephant Freedom Sanctuary because I see their suffering in the world and I want to play a part, if only a small part, in easing that suffering. As Key Volunteer I do the bookkeeping of the organization and I assist in coaching all of us along in building a strong foundation for this sanctuary in hopes of allowing for systemic growth in the years to come.
